Colin MacIntyre - Monday May 5th @ The Matrix, Ripon
Revered cult singer/songwriter who until recently has exclusively gone under the pseudonym Mull Historical Society headlines a Bank Holiday Monday bonanza featuring four great bands.
Back with a new album - The Water- and supported by a full band, MacIntyre's inventive songwriting and blend of experimentalism and driving pop have brought him international acclaim. Comparable to the likes of fellow Scots James Yorkston and Snow Patrol and The Flaming Lips, MacIntyre makes the kind of lilting pop whose appeal reaches a wide audience.
“Rip-roaring pop perfection.” THE MIRROR
“His 4th album is blessed with the genetics of such a beautiful, tranquil place woven into it.” NME
"A one-man anthem maker with more ambition and scale than many a band.” THE SUN
“MacIntyre has responded with new directness. This is booming glam-pop, climaxing with a humanist poem by Tony Benn.” UNCUT MAGAZINE
"Sharp riffs….pop perfection.” THE GUARDIAN
“Edgy and punky.” NEWS OF THE WORLD
“The effect is simply electric.” DAILY TELEGRAPH
Red Light Company are lablemates of Editors (who they have just supported on their Eurpopean tour) and The Twang and are set for their first major UK tour. Edinburgh singer-songwriter Alex Cornish and his band have recently been supporting Sandi Thom on tour with their stadium-sized songs. Single 'Untied' was download of the week in the Sunday Times in October. Finally, Blue Jupiters hail from Thirsk and Ripon, are managed by Embrace's drummer and are fresh from supporting Young Knives.
